Wedgemount Lake & Tupper Lake Expedition
June 30, 2026 • Group HikeI had the privilege of leading an incredible group of 8 hikers up to the breathtaking alpine waters of Wedgemount Lake and Tupper Lake.
One of our team members captured this footage from the top of the grueling final slope right as the lake came into view. I feel this clip perfectly captures the playful spirit of "The King Patrolling the Mountains" (大王巡山)—it seems the King is out to inspect his territory!

Yesterday, I led a group of 8 to Wedgemount Lake and Tupper Lake. All 8 reached Wedgemount Lake, and 6 continued to Tupper Lake.
Safety Infractions Issued
Realizing the severity of their oversights, the team members showered me with compliments on the way down. However, as a leader, my commitment to discipline and safety is ironclad. I issued fines totaling over $20+ for these violations.

Lessons from Gin Peak: The Crucial Importance of an Ice Axe
During a winter snowshoe ascent up Gin Peak via Hanging Lake, our group was forced off-route by a massive boulder obstacle, navigating a steep, hard-packed lateral traverse.
"I didn’t know then. Now I do." At that moment, I lacked the situational mountaineering experience to recognize that the grade required specialized tools. We scrambled across on microspikes, but we absolutely should have deployed ice axes for self-arrest security.
I want to share this near-miss realization to make sure everyone in our community understands that when winter slopes turn steep and icy, snowshoes and microspikes are not enough.
