A Journey of Willpower, Bonking, and Unforgettable Mountain Camaraderie
📅 September 1, 2025 | 👥 Team: Yuki, Patrick, Li Wanker, Amie, & Sai
Yuki had climbed Mount Overlord before, so I asked her to guide me on this incredible peak. On September 1, 2025, our group of five—Yuki, Li Wanker, Amie, Sai, and myself—set off from Whistler. Before reaching the Kees and Claire Hut, Amie wisely decided to turn back as she hadn't hiked in over three months and wasn't feeling conditioned for the long trek ahead.
Having recently completed running training with Vancouver Runaholics, I felt in prime physical condition. However, I made a critical error: I forgot to pack simple carbohydrates—no bread, bagels, or energy gels. With just 100 meters of elevation gain left before the summit, I hit the wall completely. I was bent over, severely bonked, and climbing purely on sheer willpower. On the grueling descent, Yuki noticed my complete exhaustion and handed me her own bread and energy gels. Yuki, once again, you threw me an absolute lifeline out in the wild.
